The registration of the National Identification Number (NIN) has been made compulsory for every citizen and all legal occupants. It contains 11 mindless numbers which are assigned to an individual when he is enrolled in the National Identity Database (NIDB). NIN enrolment is a once, you can’t be enrolled twice. This is the reason, the details that will be used must be accurate. This exercise is eligible for all who live and also for the citizens of Nigeria.

How To Enroll For NIN For Adult

The federal government has made it a must for everyone to enroll in NIN. It involves biometric data (ten fingerprints, headshot photography, and digital signature). All these data are taken to authenticate your identity, making sure you have not gone through the enrollment previously.

1. You can apply using the NIMC Pre-Enrollment Portal and follow the procedures.

N/B: That the NIMC Pre-Enrollment Portal is down, for now, you can proceed to the next.

  • Access the NIMC Pre-Enrolment Portal
  • Make sure to fill in your data as required in block letters.
  • Confirm the details that everything is correct and spelled correctly
  • Print out the form that has the 2D barcode,

Understand that the above instructions are just the first step in the enrollment process. You will need to go to an enrollment center.

2. Proceed to any NIMC enrollment center close to you, you can also enroll for NIN in your community LGA secretariat and even at the 9mobile, MTN, GLO, or Airtel office closer to you, If you can’t access the NIMC Pre-Enrollment Portal.

  • Meet with an enrollment official with your printed form that is with the 2D barcode (for those who access the NIMC Pre-enrollment portal). Those that can’t access the portal can meet with any of the officials to begin their enrolment.
  • Meet with the officials and they will support you in filling your form (for those that can access the portal).
  • Make sure your biometric data (fingerprints, headshot photography, and signature) is well captured. And if this is done, the enrollment is complete.

Requirement To Enroll For NIN

* Your BVN (Bank Verification Number) and any of the following required and valid documents:

  • Government staff ID card
  • Nigerian International Passport.
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Age Declaration
  • Attestation letter from Religious leader or Traditional leader.
  • Nigerian International Passport.
  • National ID card
  • Voter’s card (Temporary or permanent).
  • National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card.
  • Driver’s license.
  • Attestation letter from a prominent ruler in the community
  • School ID card.

It is essential to note that, there is no age limit in the enrolment of NIN, children from 0 to 15 years of age are to engage in this excise.

How Can a Minor Enroll For NIN?

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is in charge of registering and issuing NIN.

This enrolment is also a must for children from 0 to 15 years of age.

  • A parent/Guardian must go along with the minor.
  • The National Identification Number of the parent/guardian should be provided.
  • If NIN is used by Parent/ Guardian, there should be proof to show that you are the minor Parent /guardian.
  • A registered Birth Certificate or Age Declaration is needed.

Other Supporting Documents

  • Birth certificate or age declaration
  • School ID card.
  • NHIS (National Health Insurance Scheme) ID card.
  • Nigerian passport.
  • Attestation letter from a prominent ruler in the community.
  • Attestation letter from religious/traditional leader.
  • Nigerian Commission for Refugees (NCFR) Refugee Certificate.

Procedures for capturing minors (0 to 15 years):

  • The Minors must come along with their parents/guardians to the enrolment Centre and the required documentation.
  • The Minor will be verified to know if he/she has gone through the process before, if not will be issued an enrollment form to fill.
  • The NIMC Official and the parent/ guardian will double-check the information filled on the form by the minor to ensure no errors.
  • The minor will be captured.
  • A Transaction Slip will be given to the minor when the enrollment is complete.

NOTE: The NIN ID card will not be given to the children below the age of 16years and when they come of age an SMS will be sent to their Parents/Guardians to pick up their NIN cards.

  • Bank Account Opening.
  • Sim card registration.
  • International Passport.
  • Driver’s license.
  • WAEC registration.
  • JAMB registration.
  • Registration of business and company.

Important Notice:

  • Anyone who cannot read or write should come along with a literate person who can do the form filling for him/her.
  • NIN enrolment is free
  • Please protect your NIN just the way you are protecting your BVN
  • The National Identification Number (NIN) Slip will be issued between 2 to 3 working days from when the biometric details are captured at enrolment centers.
  • The NIN may take longer if there are cases of validation of details at NIMC.
  • The Transaction ID Slip is required to be stored carefully by the individual as it is required to be presented at the time of collection of NIN Slip indicating completion of enrolment.
