National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is the agency in charge of issuing National Identification Number (NIN). Due to the recent law by the Federal Government has made NIN exercise mandatory, everyone has to make sure to always carry his/ her NIN for one reason or the other (Account opening, sim registration, and a lot more).
NIN is made up of 11 digits and can’t be easily remembered, it has been a compulsory thing that before you can access various services both from the government and other private services providers you need to provide your NIN, and for any reason, you can’t be sure to be with your NIN card or NIN slip all the time.
How To Check Your NIN With Your Mobile Phone
I can’t open an account because my NIN slip is missing, how can I get my NIN? If you are in this kind of situation don’t worry anymore.
The NIMC has seen reasons that the NIN can be forgotten because of its length ( eleven digits) or other unforeseen circumstances. The NIMC has provided a USSD code to enable individuals to retrieve their NIN from their mobile phones.
Using USSD Code To Check Your NIN
The USSD code provided by the NIMC can be used anytime from any mobile network (MTN, GLO, Airtel, 9mobile.).

Follow the step to retrieve your NIN using the USSD code.
- Dial *346#
- Select 1 (NIN Retrieval).
- Follow the instruction displayed on the screen and dial the required code.
Important Notice:
- You must carry out this exercise with the mobile line linked to your NIN
- You will be charged #20 (twenty naira only) from your mobile account.
- You don’t need internet services to do this: It can be done with or without internet-embedded mobile phones.
- Can be done through any mobile service with the same charges.
